How can your favorite app provide insight into your personality and learning style?
When working in agile teams or creating a scrum team, personalities are important. This was an ice-breaker I used in an initial meet and greet to get to know my first agile team and it really helped me bridge the gaps with communication. Since this worked so well and was a fun exercise. I thought I would ask my family what their favorite apps was and compare that to their personalities and learning styles.
For me, it’s Google. This is my quick search app and it’s perfect for “just in time” answers. Being a wife, mom and business woman, I need immediate access to the latest news trends, recipes, and the occasional teenage slang words. “It’s so hard to keep up with those these days”. I am very direct and can get impatient if I have to read to find an answer hidden in content.
My daughter has 2 favorite apps. First choice was YouTube.
“Being able to watch and efficiently access different videos and topics compliments my short attention span and sometimes being impatient when it comes to certain things. Plus, I do like to read people’s comments, to get a good laugh, and I like to know what people in my community are thinking.” My second favorite is Pinterest because it’s a fun app. There is a ton of inspiration and it is a great way to express yourself based on your boards and what you pin, it is a safe way to get to know people and their interest.
My husband favorite app is eBay. So, I personally think this is a perfect reflection of his personality. It’s funny because he is somewhat confrontational and I think that’s why he enjoys the bid wars when purchasing items, right down to the last second. I believe eBay also feeds his second impulse which is shopping. If anyone remembers the T.V show “Home Improvement, with Tim the Tool Man Taylor”, that’s my husband, impulsive! Like I said, perfect app!
Son #1 favorite app is Instagram, he gets to share pictures and keep track of changes like photo journal. He’s a journalist by nature, and loves to connect people to pictures and things going on in the world, so I can see how he connects to this app.
Son #2 favorite app is Twitter, outside of working, he enjoys food and sports. His phone is basically attached to his hand at all time, so for him to stay in the know on any and everything immediately, this is the pretty app to stay connected without too much effort.
“Thank you for letting me share a little about myself and family. I found this exercise to be fun and insightful”.
